Colocynthis, commonly known as Bitter Apple, is a homoeopathic medicine derived from the fruit of the plant Citrullus colocynthis. Belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family, it has been traditionally valued for its therapeutic properties in treating gastrointestinal ailments, particularly those involving intense abdominal pain and cramps. In homoeopathy, Colocynthis is primarily used to address symptoms such as colic, neuralgia, and sciatica. It is also employed for its effects on dysmenorrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, and conditions aggravated by anger or indignation.

- Neuralgias and Intense Pain
- Develops primarily in the abdomen and head.
- Characterized by agonizing, cutting pain that causes the patient to bend double.
- Sensations described as cutting, twisting, grinding, contracting, and bruised, as if clamped with iron bands.
- Neuralgic pains are often relieved by pressure.
- Colic and Dysentery
- Severe abdominal pain and colic, often following episodes of anger.
- Symptoms include a sensation of stones grinding together in the abdomen and intestines feeling bruised.
- Associated with dysenteric stools that are renewed by the slightest intake of food or drink and jelly-like stools with a musty odor.
